The terms of this solution will have to be based loosely on international law. The first step is for Israel to accept what the Palestinians rights are under international law. Uner the law, the Palestinians have a right to E. Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian state. Under international law, the Palestinians have a legal right to establish a state on all of the West Bank and Gaza. Under international law, all six or seven million refugees have a legal right to return to their homes in Israel.

Once these basic rights have been accepted, negotiations can then move forward. For example, the Palestinians do not demand that all six or seven million refugees return to Israel, merely that a few hundred thousand do, as a gesture. There may also be land swaps. In any event, the settlement will be based loosely on international law.

That is the *only* way to end the conflict, and it seems that it will come eventually. THe question is one of when, and of how much unnecessary suffering will have to be endured before it does.

2. Hizbollah makes up a part of the Lebanese government so it does in fact represent Lebanon and it’s continued attacks against Israel are acts of war. The fact that Israel has not responded at this level previously in the last six years does not mean it is not in its right currently.

3. It is fully accepted that Hizbollah stores weapons in civilian weapons and fires those weapons from and/or next to civilian buildings.

4. Israel does not intentionally target civilians but it cannot allow Hizbollah to fire rockets, etc into Israel. On the other hand, Hizbollah fires random rockets into Israel with no intent other than to intentionally hit civilian targets. Hizbollah has also blocked Lebanese civilians from leaving targetted areas with the express intent of increasing civilian casualties on the Lebanese side.

5. If Israel had not concern for civilians then this battle would already have been over, Israel would just have carpet bombed southern Lebanon. Instead, Israel has used targetted rocket attacks against Hizbollah launch sites and weapons caches and has now sent in ground troups to limit the number of civilian casualties.

6. Shabaa Farms are internationally recognized as Syrian territory. Israel fully and unilaterally pulled out of all Lebanese territory.
